Dont know if this has been answerd, but its a common problem.

1) run q3 as root.

2) better, chmod all quake 3 files, especially pak0.pk3 to 777

Dont run as root, theres umpteen exploits for quake3. Your just asking for trouble if u do.

Yes to chmod/chown everything to you.

Oops, my bad, I ment Unreal Tourny. That thing's demo is impossible for me to get working...

I run Quake as root, its absolutly fine, along with diablo 2, ut2004, etc.

The reason for most games not working in linux, is they're incorrectly chmodded. If a file was chmodded to not be readable, the game would actually think the file didnt exist, and would obviously cause a crash.

Running anything as root is a bad idea.

But feel free to do as you will.

I had the same problem.

only copy the pak0.pk3 to the quake3 directory (/usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3/ in my PC)

before this, i had a symbolik link to my quake3 directory in windows, but this not work. Copy them and play!

Angry err right

wtf? defaul.cfg dont work for me either, can i dl it somewhere.... gimme some websites? or something to do cuz i can't even find default.cfg anywhere!!! im a to quake III anyway but 1v1 me now in wcIII:tft
