In my case I use Linux Steam with the compatibility layer they provide to allow some games to work on Linux which were built for Windows.

Additionally, while I find the gane a little difficult Seven Days To Die seems a decent ((paid for) zombie-survival open-world. If I had a Linux-gaming friend or three with it I expect it could be a lot of fun.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is open-world (yes it is) and is Linux-native.

It certainly doesn't feel like it with the progress I've made -- how long do you have to play for it to "open up".

Did I forget to mention Minecraft? I have been enjoying that to the extent I purchased a Raspberry Pi 4 just to host my own server.

I replayed Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider a few weeks ago, and I have to admit that Rise wasn't as open as I remembered.

I have Saint's Row IV but I find third-person games less interesting. However, it was quite fun so must play it some more, thanks for reminding me.

  • Subnautica
  • Subnautic: Below zero
  • STALKER series (shadow of chernobyl, clear sky, and pripyat)
  • Endless Sky; it is free and open source; 2D top down space game with a tailored universe and story
  • Journey to the savage planet

A few new games I like playing lately.
