Im a linux gamer. I switched to linux totally early last year when the TeamSpeak crew released their voicecom app. TeamSpeak2 which has linux support both on client and server.
I mainly play Unreal Tournament (from 1999, not the ut2k3 game) which has excellent linux support and runs nice on Mac too. Secondl I play Neverwinter Nights (RPG game from http://nwn.bioware.com ). Both these games work better on my Linux box then on any windowsbox Ive tried
Furthermore I am http://www.transgaming.com member and therefor able to play many windows games with their special wine based software. F.i. Warcraft 3 TFT, Max Payne 2, Starcraft etc etc.
My box at this moment is pretty fresh made with kernel 2.6.2 and gcc 3.3.1 and most games runs even smoother with this setup. Worth the fuzz of making your own distro, if you have the energy for it.
2.6 kernel has better support for desktop boxes than 2.4. I was unable to get descent FPS when playing online with UT without patching the 2.4 kernel to run @ 1000Hz instead of 100.

Happy gaming people!
how did you get your resolution up in NWN? i cant get it higher than 640 by 480, and my card is (finally) successfully installed and up at full power.
Radeon 9700 pro
i cant get it to even give the the tweaking options for the card, except for the grass and anti-aliasing and all that
Distribution: Gentoo 2004.2: Who needs exmmpkg when you have emerge?

i think its because muflon has an nvidia card (correct me if im wrong). however much you like ATI, you must admit that the drivers arent... acceptable. you could try the XIG drivers, or an nvidia card.
Correct me if I am wrong, but according to a rumor ATi wont continue with their Linux support much longer. Guess they realized that their current drivers stink and that they do not make enough money on Linux people to make up for development costs of producing kick ass drivers.
ATi - great cards, but without a descent driver it is like a Ferrari with a flat tire.
On ATi's behalf, I can say that they are currently supporting well Linux, just go by http://www.rage3d.com/board/forumdis...s=&forumid=61, and you'll see what I mean. Yes currently the drivers have many issues, but the rage3D community is making sure they get solved. Show support for ATi products if you own one at these forums, since ATi people actually go there to check out what's going on with the Linux folks.
About the scheduler, yes, the support for a greater speed scheduler (like the 2.6.x kernels have) is quite a good thing to have, plus the preemptible capabilities and the superior threading capacities.
On regards of games, well as many of you have already stated, there are very good games for Linux, just wanted to say that currently Icculus is working out the final touches for the Onslaught game mode for the Linux client of the UT2K4 demo for Linux, the dedicated server already has been released.
