Is Halflife 2 for Linux faster than the Windows version?

The answer to that question is a firm and unequivocal "it depends". Really. It depends upon the hardware and drivers, and how well and efficiently they are supported for what the game engine does.

On mine it is clearly and obviously faster under Linux, but the graphics are not 'quite' as good. The difference is not enough to affect game play or enjoyment either way and I prefer to game on Linux. On my son's PC the Windows version is slightly faster, but that box has more horsepower from the gate and was designed to be pretty Microsoft centric. I am not sure he would be interested in learning to SPELL linux: so he is going to game under Windows!
