The installation file is most likely an installer. I recon it was something like "UT2004Demo.run.gz", if that was the case, then you first ungz it with
Code:
tar xvf filename.gz
, or tell Fileroller to do that for you. Then, you run it.
Code:
sh filename.run
I have alltogether ditched Fileroller and other confusing graphical user interfaces for managing files, and encourage you to do the same.
It's really a lot slower to accomplish things with them compared to a terminal. And this does not make me a huge linux-guru, I'm just a user.
i got it to install , ya it just takes a long time , but they did get 500mb into a 199mb package...

It's not 500. It's 19* something. So many people have already asked this question enough times. May be someone should post a thread about this as news on this board. So it would stay on top all times and no more junk.

why does it not start the game?
You did install the ATi drivers, did you?
Just go to the ATi page and download them. Depending on your distro and version of X Windows you can download the driver for XF86 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. Follow the instructions.
If you're using an rpm based distribution (Red Hat, Fedora, Mandrake, SuSE) you install just as the readme says. If you've got Debian use alien, if you've got Gentoo use portage (emerge ati-drivers), the most difficult distro to install the drivers to is Slackware (you have to convert the rpm package, then install it).
