I guess I have really no use for WINEX because I am not a gamer, I used WINE back with redhat to get winamp3 working, yet it seemed very slow using WINE...

I tried installing Halo with winex... it gives me some error about not being able to load a dll file called PidGen.dll.... But this file is in the halo cd... I cp'd the dll's in the halo cd to the windows/system32 directory of the fake windows directory that winex creates.... still no juice

A few people have tried this with WineX. Possibly it will work when WineX has better support for directx9?

sry for digging such an old thread but as samposmak said about the PidGen.dll (Pid3.0 generation)
This is a file that Windows Setup that produces a unique ProductID based on the valid ProductKey. If no valid key is entered, the file cannot produce a PID, and thus a user cannot continue installing. It is a system DLL so just pick through a computer with Windows on it and pick around to find where it is.
In Win 2000 I have heard of it being in one of these 2 places:
C:\WINNT\system32\
C:\WINNT\system32\dllcache\

In WinXP I have heard of it being mostly in this area:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\

If anyone has any info on Windows 9x or ME locations please post.
It would be great to get XP off my dual-boot machine(Halo is the only online game I play that I cant with Windows).

I hope this helps in the discovery of playing Halo on Linux.

Bungie didn't make Aleph One, Aleph One is just a port of the Marathon 2: Durandal Source Code, which Bungie released sometime ago. Bungie made Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon Infinity, Myth, Myth II: Soulblighter, and several other games. Too bad Halo pales in comparison to the greatness of the Marathon Trilogy.

i have read the posts on transgaming about how ppl were using wineX. it seems that can install just fine and start up the program, and then it gives the user the error messages. now what if you tried this? try copying the .dll files from thos directories mentioned above, and inputing them into the directory [window$] that wine/WineX makes and then install the no cd crack. the crack i used for halo only worked for single[campaign] play. didn't work with online play. if some one could let me know if this would work... that would be great.

and on a seperate but similar note on trying to help me understand this becuz i am a to the xtreme here when it comes to packages... but here goes. as far as Wine[free] goes. i got the package and downloaded XBC[Xbox Connect] which for those who don't know XBC is a window$ program that enables persons to connect their Xbox thru a router or hub and connect the other line to their PC and the other line to where else the Modem [cable/dsl/whatever] and it enables the XBC user to play system link games by creating a tunnel which tricks the Xbox into thinking that the box itself is connected to other boxes. but ne ways on with the ? here. i got both the tarball and the .EXEcutable. i unpacked the .tar.gz file but now i can't seem to install or make or compile the Wine[free] can some one post to either or both of these topics, that would be great. bye now. sorry again for the psuedo double feature here.

Just pay the $15.00 and download the newest release. It will have the option to handle the copy protection with installing games.
For the cost of a pizza and beer you can support a good program, and help them continue to work on the winex project.

Dont mean to bitch................. just my 2 cents.

and yes i paid for my copy.

15 bucks isn't too bad for basically a Virtual Machine client kindof... worth it all the way.
