Error: Dependancy is not satisfiable: libsdl-image1.2 - Installing

Hi.

I am attempting to install OpenLieroX on my ubuntu computer.

Whenever i double-click on the .deb file, a package installer appears, and i receive an error - "Error: Dependancy is not satisfiable: libsdl-image1.2"

Note: This file was downloaded on my PC, burnt to disk and then opened from the disk in Ubuntu.

This can not be done any other way, as my Ubuntu machine has no USB ports or internet connection.

Please help soon. It would be preferred if i could get this fixed today withing another 20 mins, or less desirably sometime tomorrow, but i do want this done some time this week.

Thanks in advance.
Nick.

You need to install the files which that package depends on. If you bring up a console and go to the same directory as that package:

dpkg --info (your package name).deb | grep Dep

That should show you the dependency list; you will need to install software which provides the packages listed before you can install the package you want.

To get "libsdl-image1.2" please do this command in
a terminal window :

'sudo apt-get install libsdl-image1.2'

and the package will be downloaded and installed.

Please note that this computer can not and will not have an internet connection. To install anything it must be downloaded on a PC and put on a CD.

Pinniped - Thankyou, I am in the process of doing this right now

Nick.

Ah, in that case things could be a wee bit trickier and you could rediscover "dependency hell". For example, A depends on B which depends on C, but A only lists B as a dependency.

There are some tools like "apt-zip" to help you with these issues. Can you use a USB memory stick at all? Or write to a CD on that machine? Or better still, set up ppp and connect via a serial port? If not, you'll have to take the time to manually (recursively) list the dependencies of PackageA and its dependencies to make sure you get absolutely everything. To avoid duplicate downloads you need to check your installed system to see which dependencies are already installed.

OK, no need to worry, i downloaded each dependency, and only one of these these needed only one other dependency, so it didnt take too long.

I now have LieroX installed on the 2 machines, which are networked, and games do in fact work between them.

This is it for the problems it seems, i was working on it for 5 hours straight today, and 3 yesterday, so Im glad its all going now.

All i need now is to install Ubuntu on the 3rd machine, but first in needs a larger HHD and a RAM upgrade.

Until then,
Nick

Post # 7, @amitpatel321 : Welcome to LQ.

Which OS are you using ? Name and version, please.
Like Ubuntu 10.10 , Ubuntu 10.04 , etc.

Anyway, if it's about a supported Ubuntu, the install command is :
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libsdl-image1.2
Or: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libsdl-image1.2-dev
