Error: Dependancy is not satisfiable: libsdl-image1.2 - Installing
Hi.
I am attempting to install OpenLieroX on my ubuntu computer.
Whenever i double-click on the .deb file, a package installer appears, and i receive an error - "Error: Dependancy is not satisfiable: libsdl-image1.2"
Note: This file was downloaded on my PC, burnt to disk and then opened from the disk in Ubuntu.
This can not be done any other way, as my Ubuntu machine has no USB ports or internet connection.
Please help soon. It would be preferred if i could get this fixed today withing another 20 mins, or less desirably sometime tomorrow, but i do want this done some time this week.
You need to install the files which that package depends on. If you bring up a console and go to the same directory as that package:
dpkg --info (your package name).deb | grep Dep
That should show you the dependency list; you will need to install software which provides the packages listed before you can install the package you want.
Please note that this computer can not and will not have an internet connection. To install anything it must be downloaded on a PC and put on a CD.
Ah, in that case things could be a wee bit trickier and you could rediscover "dependency hell". For example, A depends on B which depends on C, but A only lists B as a dependency.
There are some tools like "apt-zip" to help you with these issues. Can you use a USB memory stick at all? Or write to a CD on that machine? Or better still, set up ppp and connect via a serial port? If not, you'll have to take the time to manually (recursively) list the dependencies of PackageA and its dependencies to make sure you get absolutely everything. To avoid duplicate downloads you need to check your installed system to see which dependencies are already installed.
