Enemy Territory + Radeon 9800. Artifacts?

Is anyone else getting artifacts when they play Enemy Territory with a Radeon based card? The screen flickers a bit and you suddenly see bits of the map you shouldn't be seeing, almost like its failing to figure out what you should be able to see and what you shouldn't (i.e whats hidden behind other objects).
I know it works OK under Windows.

Slackware 9.1, 2.6.5 kernel, ATI drivers.

I have a Radeon 9700 using an older driver (3.2 or something?) and I also get slight artifacts like things tearing on the screen. The funny thing was when I was using the previous drivers, 3.1 or 3.0 or whatever, I didn't get it. I dinstinctly upgrading the drivers and seeing all this tearing and thinking "What the heck just happened? these new drivers suck!" But I am too scared to uninstall so I've left them alone.

My specs:

ATI 9700 Pro
Mandrake 9.1
KDE 3.1
Creative Audigy
