Try out www.transmissions-element120.com it is a HL2 mod and it's free and no need to own HL2! Not even sure if you need steam for that. Also a puzzle platformer called Limbo. This was free recently but not sure if it is still.
Transmission was all done by one guy over a couple years or so. Introduces some new physics and a new weapon. Also improves the AI and introduces some new behaviors.
As puzzlers go Limbo's good. A lot of people will rage-quit and I saw one report where they rage-quit and uninstalled it.
By the time you're at the end of Limbo you are glad it's over. But still a clever game if you like puzzles. I read that the new weapon and physics from Transmissions will end up in other mods.
