Corrupt models, bad window focus w/wine & CS: Source

Hello.
I'm having some serious problems with getting CS: Source to work properly in Wine 0.9.18.

System:
Athlon 64 3000+, VIA-based MOBO, Geforce 6600GT 128MB
FC5, NV Driver 8762, kernel 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5

Steam runs fine, but there are two glaring issues with running CS: Source.
First, if run in full-screen w/o window management, keyboard input does not work but mouse input does. If I run it with window management, both mouse and keyboard input work, but any existing windows will overlap the screen (including the gnome panel) and any clicking on them will cause the resolution to switch back, as well as a mess of other problems.
Running in a set desktop size (ie window) works fine but its slower and smaller.
Is there a way to get this working in full screen without these issues?

Secondly, unless I run in DX7 mode w/-dxlevel 70 (which is slow as hell for some reason), I get some serious graphical corruption with various 3d models.
For instance (I will have to post URLs further down in the thread I guess, since I'm new)

While I do find the model distortion entertaining in some ways, its also really, really annoying. Is there some problem with DX8 support which causes this? And if so, why does DX8 run at 2x-3x the framerate of dx7 mode? DX7 is unplayable (probably around 5-10fps).

If anyone needs further info, please let me know..

Thanks

Ok, it looks as though part of this can be explained by the latest WWN:
http://www.winehq.com/?issue=319

There is a problem in the way that Wine & Metacity decide what to make fullscreen. The problem should be fixable by using another WM other than Metacity when playing games, or else to use the patched or probably a new version of Metacity. Unless they put the patches in dev stable, I wont be able to use it...
So I'll look forward to a new version of Metacity popping up in yum, and/or start logging in with kde or more likely something like just Xfce for wine gaming.

The model corruption issue remains but maybe I'll find an answer somewhere else.

ok the focus thing can be solved by going into winecfg hit the graphics tab and set a resolution in there, also the latest version of wine you should be able to use a higher dx level with half-life 2 based games, might fix the model corruption
