I don't think there will be Mozilla-only sites. Since it's a standards-compliant browser, any browser that can read standard html/css/php will be able to handle any site that's viewable by Mozilla.
No wait...that's not true...
Any site that is meant for Mozilla will be standards compliant, and therefore be viewable by any other standards-compliant browser. Yeah...that's what I meant...I think...

They're there... Where you need one part from IE to get ina nd so on.
Specialy at official sites. "The browser you're using has not the @$#"#*ing thing that we've put in here 'cause our webmaster is to lasy to learn his job. So lease come back with IE 5.05 or better."
That's my interpertation of some of the messages that i've gotten from norwegian officcial sites.
Anyway i saw an interwiev with the former boss from Netscape and he referred to the IE-standard and the Mozilla standard also saying that th Mozilla standard had long ago taken over for Netscape.

I've seen them too, and I agree with Kroppus that it's mainly due to lazy developers. They see that 90% (a guess) of the online population is using IE so they don't bother making sure their sites work on other browsers. This is from experience, mind you...I was a web developer for a few years, and know that it takes a lot of work and testing to make a good site which is compatable with multiple browsers and multiple OSs....a lot of people just don't want to bother as long as the majority of visitors are happy with it. It's just like politics.
Yepps.. I mean. How the hell can you believe that you know how to make webpages when all yu use is Frontpage or Dreamweaver? I've used Dreamweaver myself and i've come to the conclusion that it's made me "stupid" in a way.
When i started with HTML al i had was some docs and other pages and a text editor and i had no problems making frames or tables or anything that i wanted then.. Now? *sighs*
I can't even remember the correct syntax for making a basic webpage..
*smiles* I blame it on Dreamweaver, the fact that i've been lazy, to much alcohol and joints and so on
So iĻve started to "learn" html all over again...
I just said I never seen any. ...though I do know they're there. ...as far as Mozilla being what Netscape was, I've known that too. It's actually the "Gecko" project (Netscape 6 was Gecko), then all of a sudden it's Mozilla Gecko. Now, I don't know what they call Netscape (besides just Netscape). btw: they still to this day haven't stripped the Netscape name off of Mozilla. I'm seeing that name appear fairly often, especially when I don't have a component that the site wants (usually a chinese character set, but IE promps me to install that too).
I'm not sure if any of you are still working on the idea of creating a Linux-only game, but if you are, read on.
Recently this article was shown on LinuxWorld. It talks about creating a Linux distro for games, and creating some killer games for that distro, to encourage people to use Linux.
Creating Linux-only games is more or less what this thread is about, so if anyone is interested, check out their website at www.gbld.net (still under construction) or visit their IRC channel which is #gbld on irc.freenode.net
I'm certainly interested in releasing a Linux only game, though it may be many years before I have gotten the experience of working with Linux before my game is ready, and this will be my first game. I am working on it, though it will take time.
<shameless plug>
You can always check out the GBLD Project (games based linux distribution), the idea is to create a LiveCD that will let anyone access a killer game that they will make.
You might not know enough to create an entire game now, but you can always help out with part of one.
</shameless plug>
My project has just taken a break.
It's been so many things happening lately in my life...
Haven't had much time to spend on it..
And with loosing all the stuff i had made, well it isn't exactly fun to start from scratch again...
But things are looking better now...
Living in a collective with people that needs help to this and that all the time takes time.. But i've managed to get everyone to throw out their wndows and install Linux on their pc's.
*lives in a Linux only flat*
Now i've started to take the RHCE and i'm gong to make it, no matter what.
*is an optimist*
I've read the GameBasedDistro idea and i think that it might be a good idea, at the same time it's not good. Yu shuld be able to save the game, the config and stuff,,, And making it a live cd won't make people install Linux so that they can play it..
It might open the eyes on a few people, but i don't think that it will be the BIG eye-opener for most of them.
The thing that is really needed isn't more games but games with better graphics..
Or to say it another way... Do wee need 1000 more asteroids clones with bad graphics or one geat lookng asterods game with killer graphics? What is it that drags people to games?
I have to agree that sending several hours on making one texture and maybe several days to make a set for one building wth windows and transperancy and so on. You do feel a bit strange about giving it away for others to use without getting paid for your efforts.
We were talking about the problems of a LiveCD last night, and it sounds like it may also become an installable distro, after the LiveCD has been created.
Saving configs/whatever isn't a problem, since we could add Fat32 (or maybe even Captive NTFS support) to the LiveCD, so that the user could save if s/he wished to.
The thing about grahpics is that they seem to draw people to the game, but they don't make the game. You need graphics that are good (for a rts maybe Age of Empires II or Red Alert 2 quality. for a FPS, I think the original Unreal Tournament has good enough graphics) but they don't have to be state of the art run-only-on-a-128mb-graphics-card graphics. The gameplay is what I would say is most important, but other aspects such as sound, graphics, and presentation do play an important role.
Just my 2 cents.
Hehehehe I agree with the 128 meg's videocard,,, mine is 32 and still working.
But most graphics in Linux games sucks. To be totally honest, most of it reminds me of the good old Commodore 64. There's a huge difference between having a boulding made out of one texture for each brick, window, piece of wood and so on and one texture that is used on every damned house just to make an example.
Most people i know wants game that's really pleasing to the eye..
Why do you thing it's just die hard fans that is playing the original Quake?
Chunky graphics and all, but such great gameplay in multiplayer and it don't take the latest pc to play it..
Making it installable is a step in the right direction. Make sure that you iron out the problems that people have with exs, Knoppix. With How to do it.. Most people can't figure that out without some help. *knows* And make sure that the permissions etc are right too... It's a damned lot to do to make it easy for the "normal" pc-user to understand (winblow$ user).
I've seen enough of them on #linux.no. Will Linux run on my XP? How do you start the program and so on.... They have all heard it mentioned and that they can get it from free on the net and have not a single clue about what it is...
Good graphics vs gamplay = Quake 3 vs Unreal Tournament. *takes out the fire extinguisher*

to store a config and save and all that, i have found a good howto on the subject. its not easy, though, but its a good howto as far as ive read: http://www15.big.or.jp/~yamamori/sun...2/index_e.html
as it says, you could provide a floppy disk to save said files if desired. but, heres another problem: speed. cdroms arent NEARLY as good as harddrives in speed, so you gotta somehow tweak it to an extent where it where it doesnt take long to load. you could use the same thing that wildtangent does: the first level is small, so it takes only a little while to download. the rest of the game gets ready while youre having fun on that first level.
PS: the only thing i hate about the original UT: the rocket launcher. ugh! other then that, i love it .
Hehehehehehe I used to hate the rocket launcher too, until i found out how to use it
The thing about floppies is this one... Who have a floppy in their pc??
i don't and i haven't had one in this pc at all... It was the first thing i removed from it..
*have had this one for almost 2 years now*
I know it's getting old... *growl* Like owner so pc....
