User unables to start X window

Hi folks,

BLFS 6.1
FC3 Host

I have been trying for sometimes without a solution to start X-window as User. As Root there is no prblem.

After login as User
$ echo $HOME

/home/User

$ startx
hanging on screen displaying following line repeatedly
Xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/User/.Xauthority
....

.Xauthority is only an empty file.

Any advice. TIA
