Suddenly can't find compiler

OK. this is wierd. I did a configure on the second pass fo binutils and it failed. Tried to configure again and it worked, then I had a fail on 'make install' so I thought maybe something got screwed up so I was going to redo 'configure' and 'make' then I got this when I tried to run the configure.

Code:
creating cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking target system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether ln works... yes
checking whether ln -s works... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
What's up with that?

sounds like a permissions problem.............

make sure your user has access to it............
location is usually /usr/bin/gcc

Permissions are fine. The first two times I tried to compile it, it was fine. It's just all fo the sudden. And actually, I just compiled a different program I downloaded without a problem. It's just with this now.

You have to start over I'm afraid, sorry.
  • You can't delete the source and build directories.
  • You can't reinstall/compile it again either.
(I think you may have mis-typed or mis-read something. Of course I wasn't there...)
