Setting up the environment

The page: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/...vironment.html

When logged in as user 'lfs', I created the '.bash_profile', but I'm a bit confused now...
A shell appears after having typed the command.
Am I supposed to exit the shell and type the next few commands, or should I carry on in the shell? If so, for how long?

From looking at the output of typing the next few commands, it would seem logical to carry on in the shell, but I just want to check.

Thanks!

these files are all about setting up the appearance of the shell and environment variables etc. You'd only 'need' to start a new shell if you needed to implement the changes you just made. i shouldn't matter which shell you use to accomplish the given task but the one which is using the newest version of the rc and profile files would be the obvious choice. ie the most recently opened one.

Okay, thanks!

Oh, and another question...

When I stop the LFS work and go at it again the next day, do I have to do anything again (in preparation), besides setting $LFS and mounting the right mount points?

It depends on what you are doing, i'd imagine that most of what you have been doing in setting up will be editing files etc therefore all of the changes you made will be implemented and should mean that you are ready to go. I'm not sure not having followed this guide but if you get into trouble just ask us. The beuaty of linux is that you can fix just about anything by editing the relevant file.
