Multiple Audio/Video ?

I want to be able to play multiple videos and multiple sounds.
I know its possible cause back when I first started using linux, redhat 7.1, I was able to have multiple videos displayed and multiple sounds.

I have all of LFS 5.1 BLFS CVS installed except for KDE, and a few networking/server items that I did not want. I do have the aRTs package from kde section installed.

Is there something else I need for multiple video displays.
And sound, why cant there be multiple devices using the sound card.

It does support it, xp,2k,98,95, RH 7.1, 9.1 all able to do these things.

It's not a very big deal but I would like to be able to do this. Mostly annoying when I close xmms and all the sign off, message sent, bells and whistles finnaly come through all at once from when xmms was runnin. Or if xmms is on I cant open a video display cause sound issues, or cant open two video's for things such as say a camera image and a movie.

Just a added question since no one respoded to it when I asked a while back.
ATI 7500 tv input drivers on XF86 4.4?
gatos.sourceforge.net has up to 4.3, if I use them on 4.4 they crash the X server when the tuner protion is accessed..(starting up avview) - not a problem with avview.

Lil bit of hardware specs:

ATI Radeon 7500 TV, A/V in/out
