making small linux from SuSE 9.0 with fluxbox

Hi,

is it possible to make a small Linux distribution out of existing big one (for example SuSE 9.0)? Currently I run on SuSE 9.0 pro, 266Mhz PII, 196MB RAM and I am thinking of something smaller, faster but MODERN (new versions of programs)...

...something with fluxbox/blackbox x window support and some gimp, openoffice, mozilla and usual desktop programs.... I found some small Linux dist, but are not to my 100% liking and usually almost obsolete

The problem is I don't understand how to make those boot diskettes, cd's, auto installers...
It is obvious this is not just getting some RPM's on cd .

Any guidelines how to begin with?

Thank you in advance

Ales
