you should have posted this in the "linux from scratch" forum.........but, in order to get help --what version are you working on..........LFS 6.0 or 6.1, unstable???
Check the contents of /etc/ld.so.conf and verify that all of the directories listed there are accessible and in the correct sequence. Try using ldconfig -v to see in-progress messages. The first question is, "does ldconfig run?" If so, the last message should tell you what it objected to. Then relink or rebuild that unit.
Also try which ldconfig to be sure that you're running the copy that you expect to be running.
