Keyboard layout problems.

Hi,

Having successfully completed LFS and backed up the system onto a CD, I've been pushing ahead with BLFS but have encountered many hicups along the way.

Currently bugging me is my keyboard layout since upgrading to version 2 of the bootscripts. Though my keymap is most definately set to UK, and though this has worked previously, I am now getting errors like INS DEL PGUP and PGDN all printing ~ (tilde). This is particularly frustrating with DEL. Even more odd is SHIFT+3, which should be the pound sign but instead goes to the start of the line, inserts a # (hash), then issues a line feed!

What, other than keymap and /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/defkeymap.map.gz can affect this? I know I 've been in this situation before (during LFS), but I can't remeber what I did to remedy it. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've found that the best thing to do is to run
Code:
loadkeys -m /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/uk.map.gz > /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/defkeymap.c
after make menuconfig and before make, every time I recompile the kernel.

Thanks for that. Well worth knowing.

I'd still like to know what's going on, just out of curiosity. I have narrowed the cause down to either /etc/profile or /etc/bashrc when I upgraded them from LFS-5.0 to BLFS-5.1 (glad I backed those up). I can feel my sanity leaving me whenever I try to read shell scripts though, so I may let this one go.
