Error while extracting kernel, chapter 5.6

So I've just started with version 6.8 of the book. I'm at chapter 5.6, where I need to install the Linux API Headers. My problem is that I get an error while unpacking them:

Code:
tar: linux-2.6.37.5/arch/microblaze/boot/dts/system.dts: Cannot create symlink to `../../platform/generic/system.dts': Protocol error
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
I tried deleting the archive, redownloading (version 2.6.37.5, since the package list recommends the use of the latest 2.6.37.x version) and checking the signature, but I got the error again. Any ideas?

Hi,

I pretty sure this is not an LFS issue. Are you using virtual box (and a shared folder) by any chance? It seems that this will not work due to the fact that the underlying FS is NTFS.

I'm not a virtual box user (the above info was found searching the net.......), so I cannot give you a solution, except to not use a shared folder (which might or might not do the trick). LFS can be build using a virtual machine (I did so using both KVM and VMWare Fusion).

Hope this helps.

You're welcome

BTW: Can you put up the [SOLVED] tag? (first post -> Thread Tools).
