Cross-tool 0.42: Tool-chain compilation process fail

Hello,

during the Tool-chain compilation process I get this error:
----------------------------------------------------
*** These critical programs are missing or too old: as ld gcc
*** Check the INSTALL file for required versions.
----------------------------------------------------
After checking my system which is Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat:
the package containing those tools is binutils version = 2.20

and for some specific reason I configured the Cross-tool to download and use binutils-2.15

I have a little experience with Linux, would you please suggest me a solution to fix the problem.

Thanks

What versions are actually required per the INSTALL file?

Things must fit together : Old binutils, glibc, gcc.

Then you can probably also not use a recent kernel.
So which three other 'tool chain component' versions did you choose ? ?

QUOTE from crosstool-ng-1.5.1/config/binutils/binutils.in line 94 :
"config BINUTILS_V_2_15
bool
prompt "2.15 (OBSOLETE)"
depends on OBSOLETE"
