black screen and cursor after installing gdm in blfs
Hi
I get a plain black screen after booting blfs,
I had just completed installing gnome and then installed gdm.
I have also installed the blfs bootscripts for gdm.
After all this I restarted the laptop and booted into the blfs installation I just get a black screen with a cursor, but I dont get the greeter screen.

What happens if you start x manually? what is the output from gdm when started manually? A black screen is a common symptom of a number of different problems, the more info you give us the easier it is for us to help

I booted into blfs using runlevel 3.
I started startx manually(this works fine) and then tried to cat the .xinitrc file, only to find the .xinitrc file missing...!
I dont know how it got deleted ..? but it wasnt there in ~
How can I fix this? (Im not sure exactly how to rewrite the file)
As for the gdm logs ive attached them in this mail
When I start gdm manually I have the same problem I get the blank screen with the clock cursor
Regrads

The .xinitrc file is not created automatically if it is not there startx will use look for a default in /etc/X11/app-defaults.
Sorry your logs don't appear to be attached.
I don't use gnome or gdm so I can only offer general advice, what happens if you start the various bits of gnome manually metacity gnome-panel etc? have you installed/configured the bootscript and config files properly ( /etc/gdm/custom.conf, /etc/rc.d/init.d/gdm ), it sounds like a session manager problem to me, make sure polkit d-bus,and consolekit is installed and running properly.
