vncserver problem on RH Enterprise AS 3

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this was brought up before, but I tried searching for it and didn't find anyone having the same problem like mine.
Well, i installed realVNC. I configured it, and was having problems when connect to vncserver from another box thru vncviewer. I was getting a gray screen. So I found how to fix that. Changed the xstartup script for each user to the following:

Code:
#####################  xstartup
#!/bin/sh
PATH=$PATH:/usr/X11R6/bin/
unset SESSION_MANAGER
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

#[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
#xsetroot -solid grey
#vncconfig -iconic &
#xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
#twm &
After I did this, it worked AWSOME!
I love how vnc works btw linux systems. Much, much faster then btw windows.
Anyway, I assined the static IP address to the linux box where I installed realVNC, and this morning was having network problems. There was a conflict with IP addresses and it kept disconnecting me from vncviewer (from windows box to the linux where i installed realVNC) Someone got assigned my IP address by DHCP server, so I had to change my IP address. I did that, rebooted the comp, and when i tried to connect to linux thru viewer on display 1, which is started by root, i got a gray window. I checked the xstartup script, but it's fine. There's no difference. When I connect on display 2 as a user2 (not root), it works fine. Also, display 3 as user3 works fine. Only when root starts vncserver it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me out?

I could be called newbie, I guess, when it comes to linux. I'm familiar with it, but probably dont know 10% of what other ppl here know about linux, so go easy on me

Thanks everyone for help.

you're welcome...glad i could help

i solved this problem by upgrading to RHEL AS 4. That version of linux has vnc preinstalled. I never checked if RHEL AS 3 had preinstalled vnc

anyway...enjoy the power of vnc now
