sure, lynx is my favourite text browser among many, w3m is pretty cool too. also there are graphical non-X browsers, e.g. links2 with fbdev.

acid_kewpie, I think manoj.linux wants to know about connecting to the Internet, not browsing the web.

Most Linux distributions will connect to the local network, even in text mode, and will set the default route to the Internet using DHCP, so make sure that your home network router supports DHCP.
Code:
/sbin/ifup eth0
To connect with a dial-up modem, or some types of cable modem, can be a bit trickier. For this, you need to use the Point-to-point protocol (PPP), which can run over a serial modem (or even a serial or parallal port, SLIP or PLIP, if you want to network to another computer and don't have an Ethernet port available).

For full instructions on PPP, see http://tldp.org/HOWTO/PPP-HOWTO/

hmm, yeah possibly actually. precious little information given about the type of net connection in that case.

that'd be ifup though, not ipup.

Sorry; I've corrected my typo in my original post to avoid confusion.
