I am going thru RHEL5 classes at present. What ive noticed in these classes is that the instructor solves a query thru certain steps (eg 6), but i may solve that query thru a shortcut.
I was wondering whether it is good for me to go in for these shortcuts.
Should I stick to the steps given by the instructor
First of all: Don't use only "RHEL 5" as the thread title. Make sure the title gives more information about that the thread is about.
Regarding the shortcuts: What kind of classes are you attending? On the Red Hat exams I've attended there is only focus on getting the job done, not on how you do it.
About the classes..im attending RHCE classes. Now my trainer has been giving lectures about certain chapters like the GRUB and how to edit it and /etc/fstab if something goes wrong with the booting.
Now, my query is that i got the same result as his but by some other way which is somewhat of a shortcut. I wanted to know whether shortcuts is allowed in the RHCE exam or do i just follow what my trainer teaches

In the RHCE...it's results what matter. As long as you solve the problem; you will get credit for the exercise.

As custangro pointed out, it is the result that matter, not how you get there. But maybe you can come up with an example of such a shortcut?
when i lock screen on the workstation running on RHEL, i dont get the options to log in as a different user (username), is this feature available on RHEL, any suggestion on how to enable it,
if there is a thread where this is already discussed kindly provide a link,
