RHEL Patches : Manual Updation??

Hi,

We have got few RedHat Linux systems. Need to know how to keep them updated with latest patches??
Does Redhat publish (Security) Patches time-to-time , like Sun does for Solaris Systems or so ?.
If yes , then what are the ways to update systems with these Patches? I know 1 of the way is through RHN.
But for that we need to have official subscription from Redhat. In case we dont have any such , is there any way out to manually apply these patches to systems? And where do get such alerts for new Patch releases?
Hope I'm clear.Thanx in advance.

Sorry, Red Hat only releases the binary rpm packages via RHN. You have two choices one is to download the source packages and build them yourself. The other is;

Yes Redhat (and most Linux vendors) publish patches. If you do not have an RHEL subscription, then you have to download the source rpms of the patches from the Redhat ftp server and build them into rpms yourself. If you are using RHEL 5.x, you can create a yum local repo which can be used to provide the patches to the other RHEL systems you have, so that you do not have to patch each individual server or workstation manually. To get alerts for patches, I think you need to subscribe to one of the Redhat security mailing lists.
