recovering /boot in RHEL 4

This is my first question in this forum. I can't seem to find the answer anywhere else so I thought I would try here.

Does the "linux rescue" provide network services ? I'm thinking of a situation where the /boot has been erased and the system cannot boot and hence, cannot have data recovered to it from a backup system.

Are there any special considerations to Disaster Recovery with regards to /boot ?

Thanks.

Nope no special requirements in regards to /boot or any other directory or partition.

Yes it is possible to rebuild /boot from rescue mode, it would be a good idea to keep a copy of the current kernel rpm ready for install someplace on the hard drive or other usable media. The basic commands are after using chroot are;

/sbin/grub-install --recheck /dev/hda
rpm -ivh kernel*.rpm

You should look into bare-metal recovery options and remember google is your friend.

No Linux would not boot, but using the installation media and rescue booting then you can install grub to the MBR of the second disk (after proper configuration of the jumpers) by the same grub-install command I listed earlier.

A little editing of the /etc/fstab file might be need also depending on the contents of this file, in many cases this is not needed.
