Need to copy data to new mount point

Hello all,
I need to migrate data from two existing mount points created on EMC disk to two new mount points created on another EMC frame. The goal is to retire the old frame due to end of life...

Anyway, I need to do this with as little downtime as possible. I believe I will need to reboot the box to see the new disk when they are presented to the system. Once I can see the new disk I plan on creating two new file systems and using rsync to copy the data. The exact command I plan to use is:

rsync -avurl /origmountpoint/ /newmountpoint

Once the original copy is complete I plan on having the applications stopped and running the same rsync command again, hopefully within a week of the initial rsync. Once the final rsync is complete I will unmount the original mount points and the new mount points, rename the newly created mount points to match the original mount points in /etc/fstab and mount the file systems. I will then start and verify the application.

Being that I am new to Linux and do NOT want to corrupt the data or otherwise screw this up, can someone tell me if my plan is acceptable? Or, better yet, tell me of a better way to get this done?

The system is running Red Hat Enterprise AS Release 3.

Thanks.

Doesn't EMC support snapshot technology ? I would think you could take a snapshot of the live array and then restore that snapshot to the new array using your array management software.

Array-based management utility; Shared storage control; Snapshot management
(up to 8 simultaneous snapshots)
. Navisphere Express, SnapView Express, and
PowerPath

Evidently these options aren't available in our environment. We have access to EMC Open Migrator but it is not supported on the version/kernel level we are running.
