minimum requirement for linux gateway and cache server


hi
i need to make linux cache and gateway server in our ISP which will serve as gateway , DNS , and cache server for certain city. which minimum hardware required for this server?
i decided to use fedora core with no GUI.

Obviously hardware requirements will scale depending on the number of client machines and network load, so it depends. For security sake though, you should consider putting the DNS on a separate system and have the gateway be a dedicated routing/firewall box.

If you are going to use something bleeding-edge like Fedora, make sure not install lots of extra software packages that come with it. Use one of the minimal install options or do a custom install.

I would suggest that you use Tinysofa instead of Fedora. Tinysofa server is Fedora based without the Fedora gotchas.
