Unhappy Linux Error 13 + Linux Error 98

Hello,

I am trying to install an Oracle 9i Database on a Linux Red Hat Enterprise 3 (WS) server.
I know, officially Oracle 9i is certified with Enterprise 3 (ES) or (AS),

I am going over the required RPM files from the Red Hat Linux Operating System, and this is what I need:

compat-db
compat-gcc
compat-libstdc++
compat-libstdc++-devel
openmotif
setarch
tcl
glibc
jdk
-----

When I try to invoke a listener utility for the Oracle Database, i get Linux Error: 13.
So I descided to reinstall my Oracle 9i Database, and invoking the listerner utility I get a Linux Error 98 message.

What is going on ? What do these error message pertain to ?
Someone mentioned to me that I might be missing the networking layer during the installation. Is that a possibility ? What should I check ?

PT

Linux error 13 is often related to bad permissions on ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/oracle. These should be 6751 I think. The bad news is that this is typically caused by the installer failing.

Linux error 98 is typically caused by network ports that Oracle requires already being in use. Check your listener logs for port in use exceptions and then free up the used ports.

Unhappy Details

Hello,

Thanks for the info.
Could you be a little more explicit as to what I should be looking at ?
(the ports, permissions,....)

For Linux Error 98, look at open ports that Oracle is trying to use. There should be message in Oracle's logs about what ports it has attempted to use be was unable to.

For Linux Error 13, look at permissions or $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.
