what about default gateway?
is it set to the ip of the remote system on the other side of the broadband modem?
[ or to your router's ip ]
is the default network interface really eth2? it is usually eth0
your isp is most likely using dhcp, your nic config has to invoke dhcp to get an ip number.
[ unless you are paying extra to get a static ip from them. ]
I was actually pleasantly suprised when I read your question, most people seem to think they have to configure the modem itself not the network card, so you are leaps and bounds ahead of the game
