Question How to upgrade to latest RHEL WS from RH9

Hi,
Currently most of our users are still using RH9.0, if we are going to upgrade to lastest RHEL WS4. how can we install and still maintain their old configuation and only upgrade the OS ?

Regards

When you do an upgrade on most rpm based distros, the config files are usually left intact.

It depends on what "old configuation" you're referring to. Some applications have been updated and so have their configuration files.

Redhat recommends backing up the data and doing a re-install.
This is from their faq regarding Enterprise 2/3 upgrades to 4 and I'd say
it equally applies to RH9 (maybe even more so).

I've never had success with upgrading...

edit... quote from the site
Also, please keep in mind that upgrades from Red Hat Linux 7.x, 8.0, and 9 are not supported, so a fresh install is necessary when upgrading from these releases to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
