Has anyone tried update the kernel to 2.6.x in Redhat Enterprise Linux?

I know the default kernel should be sth like 2.4.x-EL, but would it be a problem to try the latest 2.6.x kernel on Redhat Enterprise Linux?

Is there any SERIOUS stabiliy issue involved in it?

Thank you all.
