EL AS 4 and tape devices

Hey folks I just put el as4 on a box that previously had winodws on it. This box also has a tape library hooked to it. After install I could not see any tape devices in dmesg and there is no /dev/sg? How do I go about getting this box to see the drives and changer hanging off of it? They appear to be be loaded I jsut can not see / use them. Any help would be great.
