duplicate files in one folder!

Hi,

we use Suse 8.2 as a fileserver.
The filessystem is xfs, users are working on the server via samba and NFS.

The following problem occured:

A windows user accesses the fileserver via samba. The (windows-) application creates files on the server.
The application crashes (reproducible) leaving several files on the server that have exactly the same name.

-> can this be?
i thougt that this is not possible in one single directory...

i checked for unvisible characters like spaces in the filename but there are none.

the files having the same filenames have different inode-numbers, sometimes they have the same size, sometimes not.

Is this a filessystem related problem? Do i have to unmount and fsck or is this a samba issue?

Thanks a lot in advance

Just a thought but if I edit a ".doc" file on a windows share it creates a temporary file until the changes are made. I wonder if that's whats going on here.

See if you can find out when the duplicate files are actually created? When it's accessed? When it's edited? When it's saved?

See if you can see exactally when those new files appear. Might be a samba thing.
