Desktop Lockdown

Is there a way to disable right click on the desktop? This is a gnome environment. I have lookd through gconf, but I have been unable to find anything to lock down this feature. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i had once the same question and i'm sorry to say but, i couldn't find it. now what my solution was is: fvwm2 this is a very very flexible display manager but the coniguration is very hard...

maybe this isn't where you were looking for, but this is the only thing where i can think of.

cheers

I don't know which distro you have or what version of GNOME you are using, but the GNOME site has a configuration guide. Here is the link to the latest stable release 2.6:

http://www.gnome.org/learn/admin-guide/latest/

I think what you may want to look at is the locking down the desktop section and configuring menus. You may not be able to do everything with one command, but I expect you can get a good start by looking a the documentation.

Why do you want to disable the right-click menu? Is there something in the menu you don't want users to access?

I am setting up a thin client (KIOSK) system with LTSP, and I want the clients only to be able to access what I have on the panel which I have already been able to lock down.

I don't know much about either Kiosk mode or LTSP. You may want to repost your question with those in the subject.

Here is a different approach - http://www.k12ltsp.org/phpwiki/index.php/GDMKiosKMode

They don't lock down the desktop, instead they allow the user to update to their hearts content, but delete it and restore defaults after the user logs out.

Desktop Lockdown, Gnome disable desktop right click

This thread goes back a way now, but in case anyone is looking for a solution to this it would seem that this can be done in the gnome config by unchecking nautilus show desktop preference. To be precise.

using gconf-editor (yum install if not already installed)

In fedora core 6 this appears in menu Applications/System Tools/Configuration Editor.

In the configuration editor select Apps/Nautilus/Preferences and uncheck - show desktop.

It worked for me!!
