Aggregated RPM DB from multiple hosts

We have a need to impliment or develop some kind of database that will keep track of which RedHat hosts in our network have which RPMS installed. The ideal would be database where you could query for a hostname, and receive a list of all RPMS on that host. More complex querries such as 'select hostname from hosts where openssh_version = "3.6.1p2"' would also be supported.

Does anyone know if a project like this is already out there? It seems like it would be a pretty common need for admins of large linux shops.

Thanks in advance!

nice idea, certainly nothign i've ever heard of. if you'd consider building your own, there are some acces modules you might like... http://www.blackperl.com/Perl-RPM/Database.html naturally the way you imply you'd just need some sort of method of inserting data into a generic sql database, then you're home free...

you know, this has actually got me thinking now... maybe i'll have a go myself... maybe the thought will pass in a few minutes though!
