Thanks for reply. The idea about USB is actually about backup. Sorry I did not stated clearly. Actually, the only HDD are SCSI, ane LVM is running. Do you think can sync IDE HDD or SATA HDD with SCSI? I have never done it before. Using LVM should not be any problems right?
Be careful when extending LVM onto an external USB drive. Should the drive becomes detached, you might have your machine non-bootable. Extending the LVM might be useful if you want to make use of the newly available spaces along with the existing space in a common pool. In other words, what used to be a "/" with 750GB, now will have a 1.75TB. But don't ever let the drive be detached!
Personally, I would just mount the external USB drive as a separate filesystem eg. /dev/sdd1 as /mnt/whatever
