Welcome to LQ, fxa14130.

As for a programmable drone, they are already programmed to respond to a joystick. You won't program a drone to fly a prescribed route, because there's all sorts on air speed, wind and up/down draught compensations that have to be done on the fly. It's hard enough to try with cars. That's why they send humans into space, just to hopefully have hopefully at least one pair of hands to do the messy bits. Because fromn a space POV, humans have annoying and expensive habits. They need pressure, consume oxygen, food and water on a daily basis. Then they relieve themselves of waste products. Every day. And you have to feed them after they have done their job - you can't just switch them off.
