Yellow Dog for PS3 - Why is there no sound? Where can I find a flash player.

I succesfully installed YDL 5.02 on my PS3, and I got the wifi working (OMG, YES!), but there is no sound or flash support.

First, during installation, I got a screen asking me to check the sound configuration and if I hear a sound. I heard the sound, but after the installation, I checked the settings, and I get no sound. YDL list two sound cards, but neither of them give me sound.

Second, where is a flash player that works? I can't find any forums saying there is a flash player that works on the PS3...

Why would you install YDL 5? YDL 6 is much better. As for your sound issues, did you have an eyetoy(PS eye) or rockband/guitar hero instrument plugged in when you installed? As for a flash player, i have managed to get swfdec working on YDL 6, but its very advanced and complicated. At this point I would recommend updating to YDL6. If you would like more info on getting swfdec to work, let me know before you install YDL6.

No, I made sure absolutely nothing was plugged into the PS3 during instalation. Like I said, during instalation, the test sound worked perfect (through an optical cable, too).

There's a YDL 6? If I update to I get YDL 6? If not, where do I get the .iso (it's for playstation 3 right)? Do I have to do a complete reformat / reinstall to get YDL 6? Do I have to update the kernel in YDL 6 to get wifi working?

Sorry for all the questions...

Here is YDL6 for the ps3: ftp://mirror.anl.gov/pub/yellowdog/i...D_20080207.iso You will have to reinstall everything. If you want to get a flash player working, make sure you check off software development when you install. Wifi should work out of the box.

Also, here is an installation guide: http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/su..._ps3_guide.pdf

Thanks...

YDL 6 installed fine. The sound works and wifi was supported out of the box.

I made sure I checked the software development box you were talking about, so how do I go about installing a flash player?

I've taken this from a guide over at the official YDL forums.
Quote:
Swfdec 0.6.6 and Swfdec Mozilla 0.6.0
Open up the terminal and run the command below. This will open your ld.so.conf file with the text editor.

Code:
gedit /etc/ld.so.conf
Copy/paste the line below into the ld.so.conf. Then close it saving the changes!

Code:
/usr/local/lib
Now open up the terminal and run the command below!

Code:
ldconfig
Download the (swfdec-0.6.6.ydl.tar.gz2) from the link below and extract it to your desktop it will create a folder named Swfdec-0.6.6.ydl.tar.bz2_FILES . This contains all the packages needed to be installed in order to compile Swfdec.
http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/ps....6.ydl.tar.bz2

You need to follow these steps carefully and in order, Not following this guide closely could brick your YDL install. Take your time follow this guide closely and you will have swfdec 0.6.6 installed and running with sound and the best flash support possible for us currently available.

1. Installing Glib-2.15.3

Open the folder (Swfdec-0.6.6.ydl.tar.bz2_FILES) and copy the (glib-2.15.3.tar.bz2) to your desktop, Right click on it and choose extract here, It will create a folder named (Glib-2.15.3) right click on it and choose open in terminal. now run the commands below to build and install glib.

Code:
./configure
Code:
make
Code:
rm -rf /install-prefix/include/glib.h /install-prefix/include/gmodule.h
Code:
make install
Installing libsoup-2.4
Open the folder (Swfdec-0.6.6.ydl.tar.bz2_FILES) and copy the (libsoup-2.4.0.tar.gz) to your desktop, Right click on it and choose extract here, It will create a folder named (libsoup-2.4.0) right click on it and choose open in terminal. now run the commands below to build and install libsoup-2.4.

Code:
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
Code:

Code:
make install

Fluendo
I didn't include this file because I am not sure if it would be legal for me to redistribute it. You have to create an account on the website in the link below to download the fluendo mp3 but its free registration is quick and no email verification needed or credit card or anything. You need this if you want the sound to work for youtube video's.

Installing fluendo-mp3-3.ppc
Go to the website below create free account download fluendo mp3 save it to your desktop.
https://shop.fluendo.com/

Extract the (fluendo-mp3-3.ppc.tar.bz2) to your desktop, it will create a folder named (fluendo-mp3-3.ppc.tar.bz2_FILES) open it and browse to fluendo-mp3-ppc open it and right click on the file libgstflump3dec.so and choose copy now browse to /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10 and paste libgstflump3dec.so into it.

Installing swfdec-0.6.6
If you already have an older version of swfdec installed now is the time to remove it. Open up the terminal and run the command below. Or go to software installer and search for swfdec and remove the previous version.
Code:
yum remove swfdec swfdec-mozilla
Open the folder (Swfdec-0.6.6.ydl.tar.bz2_FILES) and copy the (swfdec-0.6.6.tar.gz) to your desktop, Right click on it and choose extract here, It will create a folder named (swfdec-0.6.6) right click on it and choose open in terminal. now run the commands below to build and install swfdec-0.6.6.

Code:
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
Code:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
Code:
./configure
Code:
make
Code:
make install
Open the folder (Swfdec-0.6.6.ydl.tar.bz2_FILES) and copy the (swfdec-mozilla-0.6.0.tar.gz) to your desktop, Right click on it and choose extract here, It will create a folder named (swfdec-mozilla-0.6.0) right click on it and choose open in terminal. now run the commands below to build and install swfdec-mozilla-0.6.0.

Code:
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
Code:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
Code:
./configure
Code:
make
Code:
make install
Now browse to /usr/local/lib/mozilla and copy the file libswfdecmozilla.so to /usr/lib/mozilla.
MY EDIT: This didn't work for me, I had to make a symbolic link to libswfdecmozilla.so in my /usr/lib/mozilla folder. Post a reply if you are unsure about how to do this

Your almost finished now, One last step browse to start menu/applications/system tools/add remove software once it loads click on the search tab. Search for gstreamer, Make sure all the packages listed below are checked and installed if they are not then check the box and install them.

codeina-0.10.1-5.ydl.1.noarch
gstreamer-0.10.15-1.ppc
gstreamer-devel-0.10.15-1.ppc
gstreamer-ffmpeg-0.10.2-2.lvn6.ppc
gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.9-6.ppc
gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.4-2.ppc
gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.5-1.lvn6.ppc
gstreamer-python-0.10.7-2.ppc
gstreamer-tools-0.10.15-1.ppc

Thats it swfdec 0.6.6 and swfdec-mozilla-0.6.0 are installed and working all youtube video's will play and with sound, You will notice the time is correct on the video's as well as the banners work now some myspace flash stuff works as well. So there has been a lot done to the latest version.

I tried the instructions... But I get hung on an error message saying that libsoup-2.4.0 requires glib-2.15.3 or higher to run, which is frustrating because I just installed it successfully. I tried a reboot, but I got the same results.

Now what do I do?

Make sure you have ldconfig running in a separate terminal window.
