use fedora next or not to?

I have been using fedora since fc2. and really enjoy it.

but Im wondering, if there would be something better? i enjoy tinkering, beginner c/c++

I am wanting something a little faster... i dont mind more difficult, but dont want to get tooo hard... but... i follow directions well. I do want something though that is well supported, and that possibly does not use rpms... Im tired of these dependcy things.

I was even pondering lfs... but... that from what I heard is tough.

any input? who likes which distro and why?

Thanks for input.

Well, im not telling you just because I like it and use it, but because its just about what youre asking for.. Id recomend Slackware.. It has a slightly different learning curve, not tougher, but very different. Your dependecy struggle will be at a diufferent point of view, .tgz:s have no dependency checking so it wont get in your way, but youll have to install them anyways ofcourse.. (;

Since you like coding, im sure you also like the fact that Slackware is excellent at building from source. As there is no dividing into 'main' and 'devel' packages, every package you install includes also the headers you need to use it with source code.

IMHO Slackware is barebones enough to compete in that aspect with LFS, but alot more "complete" and mature.. Give it a go, youve got nothing to loose and alot to gain..

Other distro options along the same ideas would be Yoper, and ofcourse Debian, but apt does have its dependency problems sometimes.
