The best distro for multiprocessor machines?

Hello there,

The question about which is the most suitable linux distribution to be run on two (or more) processor machine, used as a server bothers me since the beginning of the weekend. I would like to see what you think about that!

P.S. I have no previous experience , so I'll be glad to hear about every idea or previous experience you have had.

Any distribution will do. If the installer does not install the SMP kernel you can compile it from the source.

I've installed SuSE on many multiprocessor machines and it always installed the correct precompiled kernel.

As KimVette said, it's more the kernel being used rather than distro, so you could use pretty much any distro. Read through other threads on which distros are best suited at people new to Linux and the various pros + cons. Most modern distros will correctly identify dual-processors during install and configure an SMP kernel accordingly, but I've found it best to reconfigure the kernel from scratch for your particular architecture to fully utilise dual-processor capability.
