Question Sentry LiveCD Firewall Root password

If anyone has used Sentry Firewall and has properly setup it, i am in need of assistance. All is going well except i have not the vaguest idea on how to get the root password, or even redefine it. the Sentry.conf file recommends that you specify the updated "shadow" file which according toe the HOWTO "shadow - Contains your own password hashes". Great, sounds good, how do i make that? Any help with this distro would be great, or any other similar password hashing things. i also do not know the default root password, but do know a normal default user name and password, and am also looking on how to re define that, but that is a lot easier for me, unless it has to be in hash form, which i am lost on.

alright i figured that out, i just need to know the type of encryption these hashs are,

root:$1$/fHTutbl$j7ubF1YCJIOOSGnfhIRxi/:11437:0:::::
sentry:$1$/I.Uutbl$fjgRqXQw9xCzv64VxOXQ51:11437:0:99999:7:::

root's password is sentry and sentry's password is SENTRY both passwords work and are given in the sites FAQ
I know its not MD5
