This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.

Something frustrating about this thread is that aside from saying that you found Ubuntu too slow, you keep saying a distribution or OS is good/bad without actually stating why or what is so good or bad about it. At this rate, no one will be able to help you. You simply need to go discover distrubtions and OSs for yourself, and figure out what you like or dislike about each.
look man
i will tell u
ubuntu is slow with me and it is only one cd which needs to get ur packages from the net
debain is like ubuntu but ubuntu is easier than it
freebsd needs a lot of configurations
pcbsd have a problems with my hardware
i asked a friend about BSD he told me that it is made from unix not from minix which made it better and powerful
this made me very confused again so i don't know what to do ?and what to choose ?
This is really getting everyone nowhere. Firstly, you need to give us your PC specs - how much memory, etc. Second, you said Slackware was the best you had tried. Why aren't you sticking with it? You will learn a lot very quickly while setting up and then do a lot by hand necessitating more learning. So why not stick with Slack? Or go to Arch or Vector or Zenwalk if you like Slackware based distros.
look what i need in a dist.
1-very stable
2-has the newest up to date packages
3-has a good support if i had any problems in it
4-not slow on my pc
5-i don't care a bout easy to use
6-make me learn unix system fast
7-is compatible with most hardware
when i remmeber any thing else i will tell u
1 - The vast majority of Linux distros are very stable. You can increase stability by not going for bleeding edge software. Slackware (and just about all others) fir the bill.
2 - Since you can install from source very easily (or create your own slackbuilds) Slackware fits the bill. But so does every other distro - they all have methods for creating your own packages. However - WARNING - see above point about stability.
3 - LQ is the official Slackware forum and has 300000+ members. You could also investigate your local LUG. As far as paid support goes, you would need to contact your local tech supporters and talk prices.
4 - Not slow is up to you. Strip out unnecessary programs, stop unnecessary services and use a light window manager.
5 - no comment.
6 - Linux does not equal Unix. While very similar, they are also different. That said, get yourself a few books and learn away.
7 - Linux is compatible with most hardware.
i had heard that BSD is from the source of unix that AT&T had bought it
and BSD runs linux software
and it is more stable than linux
more faster
but a little harder
it is a second problem for me now BSD or Linux
whats ur idea in that?
