Lightbulb New Home Entertainment Distro ideas

Hi everyone!
I have thought of some ideas for a new distro. Here they are:

An operating system with a primary function of Home Entertainment.

? Fast, but stable
? Easy to use and set-up with no jargon
? Capable of playing video, recording video (through Firewire, video editing program or from TV card) and editing video using a variey of codecs including DivX, Xvid, 3ivx, Indeo and others
? Supports most AGP and PCI (express and normal) video cards
? HDD bootable and available as a LiveCD
? Can play and burn DVDs/CDs with most ATAPI, SCSI and USB disc writers
? Can find music, CD and DVD information from the internet
? Range of built-in software including office suite, media suite and games
? Built specificly to do the above things

So what do you think ? If you like it, want to help me with it or know someone who would take up the idea then email me at beefkidney@ntlworld.com.

By the way i'm only 13 so tell me if you think it is a stupid idea !

Those are all good ideas but I think you'll find that some of the modern desktop-focused distros meet all those requirements - Mandriva and Suse in particular. Putting together your own distro that is is well put-together as those 2 would be a huge effort, but don't be discouraged - you'd learn a lot by trying and if you based it off some already existing distro a lot of the effort and hard work might be done for you.

beefkidney,

My God, you have your work cut out for you, as tkedwards said just take alot of the coding off another distro as opposed to starting from scratch, Try Checking out the Source code for both SUSE and Mandriva

OPENSUSE
http://www.opensuse.org/Download

Mandriva
http://frontal2.mandriva.com/en/downloads/mirrors

or if you want, the Link bellow should give you more options it is a comprehesive List of Linux Distros specilizing in Home entertainment

enjoy

I don't think this is a bad idea.

Making a slim distro specifically for home entertainment systems, you don't need a bloated DE like Gnome or KDE. Also, many of the applications can be done away with, like OpenOffice... Just include the apps neccessary for home entertainment.

Just my 2c worth
