Yesterday i finished dling Mandrake 9.1 and i installed it. I set up the sound, networking stuff, gaim, and tried to install mplayer. Through all this i rebooted a few times. I turned it off at night and then when i tried to turn it back on in the morning it locked up after Configuring kernel parameters...................OK. I reinstalled it and it did the same thing (i did a complete reinstall - i have three partitions: /, swap, and /home; and i reformatted / and /home). I think i can fix it if i just wipe the partitions, but does anyone have an idea how it got like this in the first place? i don't want to redo everything just for it to lock up again. Do i need to get an earlier kernel or something?

I have found Mandrake 9.1 a little flaky, but since I don´t have experience with other distros I just plug along. When I partition ( i have 50 gigs for linux) I make a 500 MB root partition (/) then a 10 gig /usr, a 4 gig /var a 500MB /swap and the rest for /home
seems to work well for me. lots of room everywhere for stuff. doesn´t seem to suffer from performance problems.
