Linux XP 2006
Does anyone know anything about this distro? I have been trying to find a download of it, and found one that didn't work when burned to Cd.
Seems most of the mirrors have been taken down, or just don't work. Any clues anyone ? It sounded good when reading about it, but it seems elusive to find.
Ron
I found it burned it tried it in virtual box. Cant say it was all that impressive, and it isn't much like XP in my opinion. Just thought I would report my findings.

Reason: Solved
It was listed HERE as the second most downloaded distro from this site. That's why I wanted to look at it. All the links listed here are either gone, or just wont work. I had kinda figured out it must be one of those that went from free to pay, just by looking at their home site. I really don't think it is anything I want to fool with, but I have a girl friend that is too scared to switch from Windoze, and their tout that this one looks and acts like XP made me think it may be something she could adapt to. Myself, I already have 4 distros on my home pc I am using and seeing which one suits me best, and a couple more on this older pc here at work which work well for me. I was just wondering why LQ had it listed as the second most downloaded distro, and had all those links that didn't go any where to down load it. BTW, I did manage to get the 2008 version burned to a disk, and it is an install only setup, no trial to see if you like it or not. Thanks for the reply.

2 observations:
1. Trying to get someone else to switch to Linux will not be a fruitful endeavor.
2. Making Linux act like Windows is risky---someone will always find a little detail which is NOT like Windows and then get annoyed or frustrated.
You are most likely right, but she isn't very well versed in any OS. She does email (must be Hotmail, she wont switch), Facebook, and uses a browser to search and view web sites, plays free online poker which I set up with wine on Linux (works perfectly well). She has no problems with using Linux, with the one minor exception that Firefox cant get the correct flash player from Adobe, as Linux isn't supported by them yet for that particular flash player yet. The whole hang-up is that she cant do some of the Facebook applications because of that one thing. Other than that, she is more than willing to leave the crashes, virus locating and expelling, and the spyware, adware that besiges windoze. I have to reinstall XP at least every six months or so on her PC. I was just hoping someone would solve the flash player thing in some sort of way, and I wanted to see if this Linux XP had managed to do it.
Long answer for a short problem, sorry.

may have used wrong term

Perhaps you meant the 64-bit version....I use strictly 32-bit OS and SW---even on 64-bit machines.
I may have said the wrong term, but there is some type of Adobe flash thing that isnt available to Linux. When Facebook asks for it to be installed, or a site I use called cashbreak to play games, it takes you to Adobe, and when asked what OS you want to download for, it says "sorry not available for Linux platform". The next time I try it I will post the exact theing it asks for. I cant recall it right now, and I'm at work, so I can't take the time to look. Sorry.
Almost forgot, nope 32 bit is my OS.

PS took a quick look, it is a plugin, and it is call I think= application/x-director, and when you say manual install, it goes to adobe, and says the platform not supported thing. Got to go, thanks,
Searching for x-director and shockwave on Google, there doesn't seem to be a plugin or player that will work on Linux. You best bet may be to use wine or use VM Ware and run it in windows.
You might have used a less scary example. I didn't dare go to the cashbreak site, after reading the descriptions I found in google.
Sometimes a device or technology is designed strictly for the Windows OS. A game site, for instance may employ windows specific code that is designed to prevent cheating, and the technology they choose may have something like that built in. My guess is that the distro you were looking at is styled like XP, but there is a fundamental reason why x-director won't work in Linux.
