Angry HELP installing SuSE on HP laptop - ze5170


I am ready to pull my hair out!!! when i try to install SuSE i get writing to disk errors... then it locks up all together and i have to hard-restart...i've been told that i may need to install ide controller drivers first? i'm a little lost
