gentoo driver diskette question

my hardware:

dual intel em64t xeon cpu (x86_64)
adaptec 2130slp scsi raid

gentoo locks up if i choose the "doscsi" option so i've been trying numerous other distros, such as the rhel clones - white box, centos, also slackware (even though it doesn't have 64-bit support yet).... among others.

i do not know how to load a driver disk in gentoo..... (in red hat i just type 'linux dd' and it prompts for a driver). with gentoo i am not sure how exactly to load a normal kernel (without scsi support) and load the scsi driver i need from a floppy... since otherwise it locks up.

i am also open to any distro suggestions anyone might have.

sort of getting desperate here since all the distros i've tried either have major issues (white box)...... or lockup when i choose to load scsi (gentoo) or don't have 64-bit support yet (slackware etc..)

any help appreciaated
