Knoppix 4.0 is better in many ways (than other debian flavors) .. with most of the new software in it.
It might have hd install issues, but only a very few ones .. and they can be easy to fix.

I also like Suse 9.3 .. I hate yast and all rpm based updates .. but that's me. (synaptic is THE ONLY WAY TO GO)

You mean 1.0.4, right? 1.1.3 hasn't come out yet. The reason Mozilla wants you to update to 1.0.4 is because 1.0.4 addressed some security bugs that were in 1.0.3. Once you've updated your repositories and updated apt-get, mark Firefox for upgrade.

-when i was installing i was asked if i wanted the standard video driver or the nvidia one. i have an nvidia card and went with that. but now my monitor is making some awful humming (which cant be good) and i can't set my resolution over 1024 and i cant get my refresh rate up to 85 where it belongs. is there a way i can go back and say i want the other one?
I think if you go to the Mepis OS Center (different from the Control Center), there should be an option like reinstall X, I think. In any case, there's something specific to video settings. As for the resolution, you'll have to edit your /etc/X11/XFree86 file (XFree86 isn't the actual name, but you'll see it once you're in the X11 folder), and add the appropriate HorizSync and VertRefresh ranges for your monitor.

-azerues was a nice touch, but its an old version and it wants to update itself, and it tries and fails.
Maybe try reinstalling through Synaptic?

here's something. when i go into synaptic after a fresh install, THERE IS NOT A SINGLE UPGRADE?!?!? unless it suck it in during the install when i was gone? i hope this thing gets updated frequently.
In Synaptic, go to Settings > Repositories. Check everything except the non-us repositories. Then click Reload, and click Mark All Upgrades. Any difference?

-not a real problem, but its not nearly as pretty as ubuntu ;-) [/B]
You can always change the look and feel in the control center. Have you gone to http://www.kde-look.org ?
