Can't Get Any Disto To Install

I'm having a major problem getting any Linux distro I have tried to install. I've tried Mepis,Suse and Mandriva. What happens is in Mepis for example I put in the CD it loads up. I selected Kernal 2.6 for newer hardware all goes fine. There then is an error with the video frequency or something and I'm asked to select for 6 possible solutions or type scan for it to scan and detect. So I type scan but it just takes me back to the 6 options. I have went through them all but no joy. What happens is when it loads up the screen is totally unreadable, with lines and shadow etc meaning I can't see what i'm doing to install linux. I'm using an I815 chipset. Anyone and Ideas?? I assume its my video adaptor causing the problem

Ive noticed several issues regarding Mepis and its video options. Id need a full description of your hardware and what options they give you to get a clue as to what the problem is. However, if you are trying to get started on a simple distro Ill be bold enough to sugest you take a look at Fedora Core 4. Id say Gentoo but you might get scared
